Chapter 29: Raidon POV:

“Sh!t. I still can’t get a hold of Rhen. No one is answering the home phone, he isn’t picking up when I call his cell, and he doesn’t respond to the mind link either,” Leon announced just as Thane asked me if I had heard from Rhen recently.

Thane was the Alpha of Alphas in our pack. If anyone, he had to be the only one who could have the ability to wake Rhen using the mind link. None of us could defy his command and get away with ignoring his attempts to reach out.

A sinking feeling settled in my gut as I s*cked in a breath. “Wait. You can’t reach him either?” I asked Thane, clearly dumbfounded by his words.

“No.” Thane dragged the word as if he was thinking. “It feels like he is asleep. I tried the house phone but got no answer, so I thought maybe he had reached out to you guys.”

The feeling in my gut became worse, and at this point, I feared the worst. Yet, I didn’t want to raise panic if it wasn’t necessary yet, so I tried my best to sound as casual as possible.

“Try to force him awake, perhaps? We have been trying to get a hold of him for the last twenty minutes,” I suggested as I nodded my head for Leon to follow me.

Leon pulled the video footage memory card we would hand over to the police, and we made our way out of the building using the fire exit.

I felt Thane trying to force the mind link, yet he got nothing, and my stomach sank once again. Now, I definitely knew the previous feeling didn’t appear for nothing. Something was wrong.

After a few more attempts, Thane groaned. “When was the last time you or Leon heard from him?”

Thane asked. Leon and I exchanged glances as we felt his frustration and a slight hint of fear reach us through the bond. As I glanced at Leon, he raised one finger. “I don’t know, a little over an hour ago?”

My answer sounded more like a question as the panic slowly took over, and I couldn’t think clearly anymore. If anything happened to my mates, I know I couldn’t forgive myself for being away while they needed me.

“I see. That was roughly when I spoke to him last time. Go back home and check on them first. Something doesn’t feel right. I just landed, and will join you at home as soon as I can.” Thane told me.

He cut off the mind link before I could say anything. A loud, frustrated sigh left my l!ps as Leon busied himself by rummaging in his pockets. We both ignored the police officers as they stepped in our path.

Leon tossed me the keys, and I sn*tched them from the air.

“We would have been told if anyone crossed into the city, remember? Thane has the place on the lockdown. No one can enter or leave without us being alerted.” Leon reminded me of the fact, but his attempt to rea*s*sure me didn’t work as he planned.

That nagging feeling in my gut didn’t settle. Quite the opposite, it was getting way worse. I needed to get back home, back to my mates.

It took us a quarter of the usual time for us to get back home, all thanks to my maniacal speeding. As soon as we neared the building, I pulled up in the driveway.

Even from that far from the door, I could hear our daughter screaming her head off, and Leon was out of the car long before I managed to unclip my d*mn seatbelt.

Her crying cut-off just as I entered the house through the garage door. I barely took one step and froze in my tracks as my eyes focused on the blood all over the floor. It was Harlow’s blood, and in fact, I couldn’t see or sense her anywhere near, so I raced to the kitchen.

As soon as the door opened, I found Leon clutching Scarlet to his ch3st. His eyes snapped to mine, full of panic. I scanned the den until my gaze set on Rhen, face down on the floor.

“Where is Harlow?” I gasped out as Leon looked down at Scarlet, rocking her and trying to calm her. “I found her next to Rhen.” Scarlet started screaming again as I frantically looked around and took off.

I raced around the house and to the den, screaming out for Harlow, yet I didn’t receive an answer, and it didn’t matter how loud I kept calling out.

My heart raced as I ran back upstairs. Leon met me back in the kitchen, having already checked the upstairs rooms.

Rhen groaned on the floor, finally somewhat returning to his senses and regaining consciousness. I grabbed his shoulders once he j3rked awake.

His eyes shot open in confusion. “Scarlet!” He shouted as he jumped to his feet. A second later, dizziness sends Rhen crashing into me. “Scarlet is fine. She is fine, Rhen.

Tell us where Harlow is!” I clutched his arms, both to hold him up and attempt to wake Rhen more. I needed him to hear the questions and answer them before anything else could happen. Rhen’s eyes rolled slightly just as Leon came back.

Scarlet had settled now, already asleep in his arms, and Rhen attempted to reach for her. “How? I was..?” Rhen cut himself off. He seemed out of it, very confused. Extremely disoriented, acting as if he couldn’t control his body or thoughts.

“Rhen! Listen to me! Harlow! Where is she?” I snapped at him, unable to hide the frustration, anger and fear I felt.

“Huh? Oh, she went to the bathroom. She must be with…” Rhen mumbled under his breath as he got out of my hold and tried to stagger toward Leon.

“I think he’s been drugged. He isn’t himself, not quite present, you know. On top of the weird behavior, his blood smells off.” Leon warned me as I grabbed Rhen again.

I tightened my hold on Rhen’s upper arms and spun him around to face me. “Rhen, who was here?” I yelled in his face as I shook his body.

“Why are you yelling, they are watching TV.” Rhen groaned as he tried to force his hand on my mouth to shut me up. My eyes widened at his words. “Who is they?” I screamed at him again. I was barely holding myself back from slapping my mate back to his senses.

“Harlow and Bree.” Rhen slurred the words.

At this point, I was freaking out, losing my g*dd*mn mind, but also wondering what the f***k he was drugged with. I had never seen anyone react to drugs like this before, and Rhen wasn’t the one to be taken down easily either.

“Bree?” Leon gasped out the name just as Thane smashed into the wall and slid into the hallway wall.

“Did you find them?” Thane snarled before his eyes focused on Rhen, who could hardly stand upright,-our- still completely lost to it.

“No!” Thane gasped. His voice was laced in panic as he raced over to him, grabbing him from me and shaking him the same as I did a moment ago.”

Rhen, where is she? Where is Harlow?” He screamed the questions with such desperation, I could feel the ping to my heart.

“He said Bree was here,” I spoke over Thane’s voice. Thane lifted his head right as Leo walked inside, just as n*ked as Thane. So that’s how they got here so fast – they ran from the airport. Wait, where was Leo’s daughter?
