The Alpha King’s Mistake by BlackFlame
Chapter 148 (Harper Alizah Grace’s POV)
He shook his head and sat back in his chair. “Nothing. Don’t think about what I said, anyway, please continue eating,” he said nonchalantly and resume eating.
I looked at my mate’s face, his face was serious and he was obviously thinking whether to ask again or just keep quiet.
In the end, he chose to keep his mouth shut and eat quietly. I frowned, did he really have to mention those things in front of the food? He probably knows that his son is sensitive when they are talking about his mother and sister.
I just shook my head and continued eating. Dinner ended without any of us saying a word. Until we stood up and said goodbye. Before we left, his father stopped him. “Hold on, son.” Zach looked at him and looked at him questioningly.

“I need to talk to you. Come to my office later,” Zach just looked at him, but soon he nodded.
“Okay, you’ll see me later,” he said and gently pulled me out of the place.
While we were in the hallway, we were both silent. I don’t know if I should talk to him or just keep quiet. It’s like he’s drowning in his own thoughts.
“Are you alright?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking him. He looked at me and smiled slightly.
Yes, I’m fine. I’m just a little confused by what he said. It’s been a long time since my mother and sister died. And now, he mentioned them again. He also disappeared for a long time after…” he stopped speaking.
“After?” I curiously asked.
He looked away and sighed. “Since the incident happened that I know you don’t want to remember.”
I nodded, knowing what he meant. He was referring to the death of my father and the destruction of the entire pack. The moment I want to bury in oblivion.
“I was there when it all happened. I saw how your father protected you and the entire pack. They sacrificed their own lives for your safety.” I looked at the ground because of what he said. That’s what makes me sad and angry, they sacrificed everything they have for my sake. But here I am, I can’t even avenge their deaths.
“I saw the pain in your eyes when your father told you to run and escape. Until his last breath, he wished for your safety. Then I saw you run away,” I clenched my hands.
I don’t want to remember everything but I want to know something. I looked straight into his eyes.
“There’s something I want to know,” He nodded and motioned for me to continue asking.
“What happened after I ran away?” He looked down. Why? Is there anything more painful than what I witnessed that night?
“After my father killed your father, they killed everyone in the pack. They didn’t leave a single one alive, they burned the houses as well as their corpses. That’s why your former pack became the Forgotten Pack,” they didn’t leave anyone alive. I was the only survivor.
I know about the idea that they are all dead but why is it still so painful? He hugged me tightly.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t do anything to stop my father. I’ll accept whatever punishment you give me but don’t leave me. I can’t bear to be separated from you anymore,” he pleaded.
I hugged him back, “I will never leave you. Remember, your father’s fault is not your fault. We need each other now, for our child.1’
Even if I am angry with his father, I cannot be angry with him. He had no power then, he could do nothing but watch his father’s wrong-doing. He sighed in relief and faced me. He k*issed my forehead, “Thank you. Love,” he said and hugged me again.
I prayed that everything would be fine, but like before, not everything we want to happen comes true. After dinner, I was left in our room while he went to talk to his father.
I fell asleep waiting for him. In the morning, I found out that he left to take care of something. I sighed, he didn’t even tell me where. I hope he left a letter or something.
Anyway, maybe an emergency. Maybe he will come back later. I walked towards Amanda’s room, but I found out she wasn’t there either because she went to see her parents with her children.
I just sighed, what should I do now? I walked back to our room, maybe I’ll just sleep again or read or whatever.
As I was walking down the hallway, I met his father. What a great timing. I chose to ignore him but he called my name.
“Harper,” I couldn’t help but stop walking and face him. I faked a smile, “Your majesty,” he shook his head.
“Father. You should call me father,” Was he joking? I will never call the an person who killed my father.
“Great joke. Anyway, do you need something,” I know, I sounded very distant but he deserves it.
“I’m not joking. Can I talk to you?” We are already talking. I wanted to roll my eyes but I stopped myself. I nodded.
“Sure.” He nodded back and signed me to follow him so I did. The two of us headed to the terrace, both of us looking at the vast garden below. “Do you know they always play there while their mother is gardening?” He asked suddenly.
How should I know, I didn’t live here before. Is he joking?
“He’s not the Zachary you know. He was a happy child when his mother and sister were alive. But everything changed when they died,” I know. He has already told me about that matter.
That is also the reason why he hates humans. Why he rejected me before, why he loathed someone Fike me. And nope, he’s still the sweet child before, only time and experience have changed him.
“He knows that humans killed his mother and sister, but it’s not,” I looked at him because of what he said.
If it really wasn’t humans who killed them, who? He also looked at me. “Why are you telling me this thing?” He just grinned and looked at the garden again.
“Why? I know you hate me, no, loathed me for killing your father and the entire pack. But look at you, you still haven’t found a way to avenge them. It is because you love my son and you are willing to forget everything in the past?” I clenched my hand tightly.
“You somehow still deserve to know what is going on. What do you think are the reasons why I’m telling you this?” he asked. I don’t know!
“Tell me, don’t make me think anymore. If possible, I don’t want to be stressed. I don’t want anything bad to happen to our child,” I said and glared at him.
He chuckled and face me again, his face became serious. “It’s not humans who killed his mother and sister. It was your mother,” I was stunned by what he said.
What? What does he mean? Why did my mother get involved in this mess again? “She’s a witch. She can control humans you can. I’m pretty sure you know what a witch can do, right?” I frowned.
“It’s been a long time already, but I still can’t forget what your mother did to my family. She killed them because she hates me for getting her out of my territory,” What?
He smirked, “I’m sure that what you know is different from what really happened. Yes, your father died because he protected you. But that’s not all that happened, there’s a lot you don’t know,” I frowned and asked him firmly,” What else do I need to know?”
“Your father loved the wrong woman. He shouldn’t have loved that hybrid,” I glared at him. How dare he to call my mother like that? “That person you called that Hybrid has a name, and that is Selene. She’s my mother,” he chuckled.
“Your mother, the person who killed my wife and daughter. So tell me now. Harper. What makes me different from your mother?”
“She killed them, and I killed your father,” he continued. Is this how the world becomes? So cruel and unfair. Why did my father have to die for my mother’s sin? If only that were true.
“How sure you are that it was my mother who killed them?” His face became serious.
“I’m pretty sure because I was there when it happened. Zach was there too, he saw how those humans controlled by your mother murdered them,” I gritted my teeth. Damn, 1 didn’t expect all of this.
“And to make it short. This is all your mother’s fault. She started all the trouble,” No, I don’t believe him. I can’t listen to a one-sided opinion. I need to hear this firsthand from my mother.
“And do you know where your mate went?” He continued, causing me to look at him again.
It couldn’t be, if he had told him about this matter last night, he might be…
He smirked, “You’re right. You have to leave now if you wanted to stop him or if you can stop him either.”
I looked at him sharply and hurriedly ran. Damn, Zach. You’re not thinking straight now. My mother and I never had a deep and good relationship, but she is still my mother.
And I can let him kill her.
