Chapter 96 (Priscilla)

WE WERE on our way back to the castle from the border inspection when I felt the car stop all of a sudden. After Trevor was summoned, I decided to go through the rest of my afternoon schedule.

“Is there a problem?” Zephyr asked the driver while I continued scanning the photos of the captives. I didn’t notice it before because they were all wearing cloaks during the attack but all of them had something in common.

Their cloaks had been stripped off during the interrogation. Just below their left ear, there was a tattoo of a butterfly.

“There are two people blocking the road, sir,” the driver replied. “They seemed to be injured.”

“Go and check the situation first and then report back to us,” Zephyr commanded, he was sitting beside me and was also busy reading some documents.

I dropped the photos onto my lap and rolled down the window at my side to have a look. I saw two men lying on the ground. Both were bleeding so much.

The doctor said that my blood could do wonders to the vampires. I was about to check on them and see if I could feed them my blood when I started having goosebumps. I clutched the photos and glanced at Zephyr. I caught him frowning.

Like me, he had also felt it the minute the temperature had changed. It was suddenly freezing around us. I looked behind and was shocked to find out that the mages and the guards who were supposed to be following us were now gone.

Their cars were nowhere in sight.

Zeph and I quickly glanced at each other. This only meant one thing.

The Order was here.

Both of us tried to teleport to report this to the castle but our mana was blocked. I could not link from anyone outside including Trevor. All of the spells we tried did not work. Our wolves were snarling inside us as they detected danger.

My phone rang and so was Zephyr’s.

I took it from my bag and answered it. It was Trevor.

“Why can’t I link with you, love? Stay in your quarters. We have identified your stalker. It turned out he’s the one ruling the Order. And his name is-”

The phone got destroyed before he could finish his sentence. And then the door beside me opened, revealing a face I never expected to see again, not in this kingdom at least.

“Trent? What are you doing here?”

He grinned. “Hello again, my butterfly. Did you miss me?”

Dread filled my stomach. I knew those words. I had read them many times before. But never in my wildest dream did I imagine that those words would come out from this person’s m*outh.

Trent was the first man I treated as a brother, the first man I ever trusted. When he grabbed me by the h*and, I felt his mana. It was the same as mine but his mana was stronger.

In fact, he was oozing with mana that felt so familiar that my own mana started swirling violently inside me which made my knees weak. My stomach twisted and I wanted to throw up.

I wanted to shift to regain my control but for some reason, my wolf would not cooperate with me. Instead, she started howling like she had found out something which devastated her so much.

“You’re the… stalker all this time? But that can’t be, right? It’s impossible! We are friends, Trent! Did they approach you to use you against me? If they did, we can still work this out. I will help you-”

I was surprised when he started laughing like a mad man, his laughter echoing in the road.

His gray eyes had turned black.

“Friends? You and me? Butterfly, I didn’t build that castle to live with a friend,” he exclaimed, amusement was still dancing in his dark eyes. “It was h*ard living with humans and trying to pretend I was as weak as them but it had its benefits. I get to watch you. I get to live with you and breathe in your scent. It has been so entertaining watching you.”

He was about to caress my face but I smacked his h*and. Zephyr shifted and tried to come between us but with just a snap of Trent’s f*inger, his wolf had fallen on the ground, whimpering. I wanted to go to him but Trent would not let go of my h*and.

I didn’t know how he did it but he seemed to be restraining my mana and my wolf. For the first time after manifesting as a tribrid, I felt… vulnerable.

“Forgive me, butterfly. I wanted to take you with me sooner,” he said as he returned his attention to me. “But it took me quite a long time to get used to your mother’s powers.”

I froze. “What are you saying?”

He smiled. It looked similar to the smile that used to comfort me but now, seeing it made me feel cold. There was an idea forming in my head but a part of me still refused to acknowledge it.

When my wolf seemed to have recovered somehow, she started roaring inside me but Zephyr’s wolf met my eyes.

‘No, princess. Don’t do it,’ he said through the link. ‘We are surrounded. At this rate, even if we pushed it, you and I won’t be able to make it. His mana is the darkest I had ever encountered. Tame your wolf for now. And tell him to take me with you. I can’t link with the others but I can link with you if we are in one place.’

‘But-’

‘Do it, princess. Whether you like it or not, we are in this together.’

“I will tell you the rest of the details later but for now, let me bring you to our castle-”

“Fine. I will come with you. But take my friend with us.”

“Butterfly, did you think I was giving you an option? But sure, if you want to bring your useless dog, that would not be a problem. He can’t do anything anyway. Let’s go. It’s time we test your cage.”

Trent teleported all of us. Suddenly, I was standing in front of a massive golden cage surrounded by red roses. The cage was in the middle of what seemed to be an indoor garden.

“Welcome to your new home, butterfly.”

Trent motioned his h*and and the door opened.

He pushed me inside and closed the door.

“Beautiful!” he exclaimed after stepping back to stare at me inside the cage as if he was admiring an artwork. “I knew you would fit in there unlike your mother.”
