Alpha Alexander by LS Barbosa
Chapter 150 (Scarlett)
“So, you are a bratva, and yet you chose to go against a man that was supposed to be your friend?” I asked, shaking my head in question at Vladimir who shrugged. “Isn’t that against your oaths as friends and allies?”
“I don’t have friends, Scarlett.” He said, putting his fork and knife down. I was done eating a long time ago, and though I barely had a spoon or two, I didn’t have it in me to put anything in my mouth to begin with. I was still baffled and upset with everything going on to think of caring about nutrition. “As for oaths and allies, I make them when I benefit, but I also drop the second that I don’t.”
“Isn’t that going to put you in harms way?” I asked, wanting to drag up to the topic. I wanted to know who my enemy was before I went against him, and so far, I couldn’t find anything that I could hold against him. And considering the fact that I have been mostly isolated from HIS pack members, I had no way to know how loyal they exactly were to him.
“I harm, but I don’t allow anyone to harm me.”

“A little ego boost there, no?” I asked, and he chuckled.
“You get to know your strength when you’re me.” He said, and I frowned in confusion. “You tend to think that you might need others, but when it comes to reality, it is them who need me. I simply get what I need from them before letting them ‘go’.”
I knew that he meant killing them; however, I chose to play the stupid girl act as I nodded and went to grab my glass of water. The Alpha slowly put his hand on mine before I did, and I couldn’t help but find myself looking down at his hand for a second too long before I attempted to pull mine back. The Alpha tightened his grip for a second before loosening it, silently telling me not to withdraw mine. “If you think that I am incapable of protecting you, then you will soon see that you’re ten times safer than you were with your prick of a mate.” He said, making my c*hest ache. Whereas I knew that Alexander had his flaws, a lot of them, and thinking about things now, I knew that our marriage and relationship was for too toxic for the good of the two of us.
However, something inside me told me that it was because the two of us didn’t know how to manage our relationship. Our differences and the number of things that we seemed to be oblivious to were far too many for anyone to have a normal relationship. We needed to manage them first before we would be able to make things right between us. That is, of course, if we managed to get back together. At this point, I was holding on to an oblivious idea of him and Anastasia being alive. I didn’t know where they were or what their fate was, but I also knew that I had to find a way out of this place if I was to be able to save them. Me being stuck here was not going to do them any good.
“What I am more concerned about is the fact that I do not understand your bratva rules. Don’t get me wrong, but I have been isolated, even when I was within your pack and my mate, from your pack members to some extent. I was treated like a guest, and it seems that I acted like one too. Therefore, I don’t find myself understanding what you are referring to when it comes to many things.” I said, trying to play with words a bit. I knew that him suspecting anything from me could end up being lethal, and though I knew not to be too submissive, he would be quick to understand the act, I knew to make sure that he believed what I wanted him to. “As for you protecting me, I doubt that here would be any need for that. You know, first of all, I can protect myself. And second, as long as I stay out of trouble, I doubt that there would be any need for your protection to begin with.”
“Trouble attracts itself on these grounds, and I doubt that you would expect me to believe the ‘acceptance’ act that you are putting up?” He asked, and I shook my head, taking him exactly where I wanted him to be. The man had to believe that he was winning me over before I was able to leave, and intended to do everything that was possible for him to believe so.
“Not at all,” I said, looking him dead in the eye. “If anything, I would be very surprised to see that you are choosing to believe me to begin with.”
“Is that so?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. The man was going to see a completely different side of me, a side that weakened him to his knees before I was able to kill him; however, in order to do that, I needed to know my enemy. And though I knew that I didn’t have much time to do so, I knew that what I was going to do was going to end up saving many lives. And that meant my own family. “Yes, because I am not playing a game on you, nor am I interested in doing so.” I said, and he frowned. “However, I am curious about how a bratva boss, broke his own oath. That only means that you would easily break any promise that you make to me. Deeming unsafe around you no matter what you are going to tell me.”
“As if you were safe amongst your husband to begin with.” He stated, glaring at me. I kept my eyes on him for a second before getting up from the chair, taking him by surprise.
“You are right,” he wasn’t. I looked him dead in the eye as I put both my hands on the table, slowly leaning in to ensure that I had his complete attention. “However, if I knew one thing, it was that my husband would never betray an oath, unless f*orced. And that meant that regardless of all the bullshit that he has caused, I, my daughter, and family were safe around him.”
“You are acting like he is all innocent and that I am the devil here.” He said, and I shook my head.
“Not at all.” I said, shaking my head. “I, too, am a devil in disguise. The one difference between all of us, is that we know how to control our demons.”
“I am honest, unlike any of you.” He said, and I raised an eyebrow before laughing. I straightened and shook my head at him as I turned to go inside.
“If you call all your lies honesty, then I will be clapping my hands as
I walk back toward the house.” I said before raising my hand in a fake wave. “I take it that you have excused me? Because you know, I believe that our lunch is done…”
