Chapter 215

Four years later.

Hunter, Alpha of the Dark Moon pack was the head of the family that was celebrating in his castle. As he relaxed under a pergola on which rose vines crept, he surveyed the lush garden in front of him. His wife, sister and her husband, his sons and their wife were all here, gathered to join him and River for inclusion of their grand pups in the Dark Moon pack.

His gaze rolled to Lia who was sitting at a table along with his sons, Arthur and Hawk and their two amazing pups. Two pups who were the exact versions of their fathers, but with her blue eyes and raven black hair.

Their first pup was Grisham who had brought along a whole world of happiness for him and River, was Arthur’s pup. He was three years old and was larger than most pups his age. Two years old Lachlan was already a bully and managed everyone around him with his little f*inger. Lia was seven months pregnant with their third pup, a girl who the whole family was impatient to see. Arthur and Hawk already knew that their daughter was going to know how to control their fathers pitiably. They were extremely eager to see her and were often found talking to her in her mom’s belly at several occasions.

After Arthur, Hawk and Lia’s graduation, they had decided to move back to the Dark Moon pack because it was high time Lia’s proper training started. She was more intelligent and clever than most of the pack girls. A month later she announced that she was pregnant with her first pup which brought jubilation in the family. This time Lia wasn’t afraid of having pups mainly because she had overcome her fear of being abandoned or of not being a good mother to them. With her mates, she seemed more than ready to have her kids. “Da!” Lachlan called Arthur. “Gri is bully me!”

Arthur chuckled and picked up his beautiful pup, knowing fully well that it was him who must be bullying Grisham He k*issed his cheek and said, “Then deal with it.”

Hawk smiled, his face full of pride. He didn’t know that he could love his family any more than he already did. When Arthur put Lachlan on the ground, he slapped his b*utt. “Off you go, hurricane!”

Lachlan stuck his t*ongue out and went to huddle in his mommy as he watched Grisham playing with Tina and Gina. Lia picked him up but Hawk protested, “You are pregnant, Lia. Give him to me!”

Hawk called a nanny and h*anded a grumpy Lachlan to her. Within a few minutes, he went to his brother and the two started playing as if nothing happened between them.

Motherhood suited Lia. She loved being the mother of her pups. In the back of her mind she had forgiven Natalie for what she had done to her, but not for getting Garry into her life. Hawk and Arthur were her soulmates who could do anything to protect their family.

After they had come back from the college, Arthur and Hawk insisted that they marry Lia once again, not because there were protests about their earlier marriage, but because they both wanted to show off their beautiful and intelligent wife who was now a graduate in business management. The celebration for the marriage ran for a whole week.

Sometimes they thought that they loved Lia to the level of insanity, but then they had both resigned to their unhealthy obsession about her. Every night when they slept with her, they would pull her to their c*hest and hug her t*ightly.

Right now, Arthur watched her with complete adoration as Hawk went to fetch orange j*uice for her. “How are you feeling?” he asked for the fiftieth time since morning. “Is my pup okay inside? Do you feel she is kicking around?” Lia shook her head. “You have to stop bothering so much.”

In the answer, Arthur pulled her to his lap and curled his arm around her waist. “You know I can’t.” She giggled. Her eyes went to Shiloh who happened to be Gabriel’s mate.

Two years back, after Maggie had turned into a rogue wolf, the Pine pack had started doubting their Alpha. Moreover, Shawn had withdrawn most of his investments from the Pine pack, rendering the members jobless. Brom had a difficult time managing his pack. He had taken to alcohol. He had become too weak to defend his pack members. When Hunter came to know about it, he sent his warriors under the leadership of Elijah. They conquered the Pine pack and Brom was k*illed in the attack. Now that the Pine pack was also under them, it was becoming difficult for Hunter to go back and forth to manage it. So, as soon as Gabriel turned eighteen, he was announced the Alpha of the Pine pack.

Since Shiloh was in the Dark Moon pack and Gabriel in the Pine pack, they had a long-distance relationship. They were both still struggling with their feelings for each other. The day Gabriel said that she was his mate, Shiloh had run up to her room and closed herself in for a very long time.

Gabriel had been extremely patient with her. With his help, she came out of her shyness and the two were at the point when they were contemplating whether to let him mark her and stay in the pack or go to the college just like their elder brothers and sister or go to the Pine pack as a couple.

Hawk gave Lia the orange j*uice and went to sit with his parents. River smiled at him. “It is high time that you both agree to what we are demanding.”

Hawk let out an exasperated sigh. “Why mother?”

She chuckled as she grabbed his h*and. “Because you all are more than ready. How long are we going to stay tied to it?”

“As long as you both are alive and doing well!” he said through gritted teeth. This was a conversation that he didn’t like to have but this was a conversation that his parents always had.

Hunter took a deep sigh. He looked at Elijah, who nodded. “I think it is time,” he murmured.

Arthur watched his parents and knew what they were talking about. He rested his forehead on Lia’s back, closing his eyes.

“What are you thinking about, Arthur?”

“Do you know that these days you’ve started snoring?”

She smacked him. “I don’t snore, wolf.” She got up from his lap and extended her h*and to him. “Come, let’s go to mom and dad.”

They walked h*and-in-h*and where Hunter and River were sitting and saw a very sullen Hawk. Lia went to sit by his side as Arthur walked to sit opposite his father. A servant came to give them beer mugs and garlic cheese bread. Another came to lay fruits, quesadillas, and anchovies.

Hunter picked up his beer and sipped it. Wiping the lather from his l*ips, he said, “Your mother and I have decided.” Arthur rolled his eyes. “No father. Not that conversation.”

Hunter took a deep breath in. He scratched the silver hair on his temple. “Look, I am not asking you. I have had enough run as the Alpha of the pack and now I want to h*and it over to my sons.”

“But why are you so impatient?” Hawk asked, irritation lacing his voice. “You are doing so well and we both are here to support you.”

“Have the pack members asked for it?” Arthur added. “Or the Elders are demanding?”

Hunter shook his head. “It’s none of that, but boys,” he placed his mug on the table. “River and I have decided to go on a long vacation. We haven’t seen the world. When your mother married me, she said that she wanted to explore the world with me and what did I do? I gave the charge of the Dark Moon pack. Since then she’d been busy all the time. So-’’ he curled his arm around her shoulders. She intertwined her f*ingers with his. “Now I am going to explore the world with her. Coming next Monday, we will be flying to London.”

“What?” Arthur and Hawk said in unison, taken aback.

Hunter grinned and nodded. “The Alpha ceremony will take place next week during the full moon where both of you will be inducted at Alphas. We have already notified the Shaman.”

Arthur’s jaw dropped and Hawk just stared at their parents. “How could you make a decision without telling us?” Hawk breathed.

“Because if we hadn’t done that, you wouldn’t have allowed us to leave,” River replied. “Plus we want a break.”

“But mother-”

River put her h*and up. “I know that both my boys are capable of managing the pack. You already know everything about it. It won’t be a difficult transition.”

The boys looked at Elijah who was smiling while rubbing his belly. “Et tu Brute?” Arthur rasped.

Elijah laughed. “I want to go to Gabriel and help him out. Moreover, Shiloh wants to go there and see what she has in store. So Mia and I have decided that we will accompany them.”

“This sounds like a mutiny!” Arthur gritted his teeth.

River looked at him with motherly affection. “Arthur, you’ve been ready for this role long back. You both don’t want us to go. And unless we go, you would never be independent to make decisions.” She took Lia’s h*and in hers. “You’ve got the best Luna in the world. She’s going to help you with everything. I love the business decisions she has made. Did you know that we had a profit of fifty million last quarter?”

“I know… but-”

“Hush now,” River stopped him. “We have made a decision. So enjoy the afternoon and stop thinking too much.”

“What about our Beta?” Hawk asked, looking at Elijah.

Elijah pointed at his daughters. “They are ready for that position from the time they were born. Go check them.” He waved at Tina and Gina, pride swelling in his c*hest.

“What about Gabriel?” Hawk asked.

“Gabriel has retained Trig as his beta.”

“Cool!”

That night as Lia was settling in her bed, Arthur sat beside her while Hawk was pressing her swollen feet gently. “What do you want, Lia?” he asked his Luna.

Lia smiled and looked at her mates with utter devotion. “I want a lifetime of all this,” she said, waving her h*and in front of her. “With my pups playing and my whole family doing strong and healthy and happy.

Arthur cupped her face, his green eyes going soft. He k*issed her l*ips tenderly. Hawk joined them. He turned her face to him and k*issed her. They both held one h*and each in theirs. Arthur said, “I am going to give you that, my Luna.”

“And then some more,” Hawk added. “My Luna.”

The following week the Alpha ceremony was held in which Arthur and Hawk were made the Alphas of the Dark Moon pack as Lia was announced Luna. Their pack boasted of about six thousand pack members and was only growing. Tina and Gina were inducted as the Betas of the pack, each under one Alpha. Celebration after the ceremony went on for two days.

The next week, Hunter and River flew to London, happy to give up their positions to spend time on themselves.

The circle of life went on.

The End.
