Chapter 28: Raidon POV
Thane was finally heading back from the sanctuary. What might have surprised me a little was that he was bringing Curtis back with him.
And here I was, thinking that monster would have been killed by now.
On the bright side, authorities would be waiting when the plane landed to take him into custody. Perhaps that was way better than letting Thane have his revenge.
I understood my mate completely, but ridding the world of a piece of sh*t like Curtis was a short-term pleasure. The guy would be gone, and that’s all. As if he would take the easy way out of the sh!t he had created.

Now, however, Curtis would face the consequences he deserved, even if neither of us would be the one to deliver said consequences. However, he was also the very person we needed to take down the sanctuaries.
His testimony would be front page and cause an uproar. Corbin wouldn’t be able to keep him quiet, and it would look even worse knowing the son and brother of the biggest sanctuary owner snitched on them.
“Rhen must have fallen asleep already. I can’t reach him,” Leon announced, pulling me out of my thoughts.
My eyes were still focused on the surveillance screen.
I was about to say something, but out of nowhere, I could smell something that reeked of burning plastic. The stench was so strong that I could taste it in the back of my throat.
Half of the building, if not more, was destroyed completely, yet structurally the building was sound. Everything was covered in soot, and the contents of the lower rooms were destroyed.
Moving the mouse, I clicked on the next video. We had a rough time when the fire first broke out, but now that I tried to see more, I understand that some of the angles for the cameras were terrible. We couldn’t see anything. There were too many blind spots.
As I fast-forwarded to the correct time frame, Leon peered at the screen as if he had noticed something I had overlooked.
“Wait! Go back Who’s that?” He pointed a finger at the screen as I grabbed the mouse again. I rewound the video a few minutes back.
The main focus clearly was on the rear loading dock. I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering what it might be that Leon had noticed in the footage.
In the distance, I could barely make out the footage until the smoke and the keyman store owner from the street behind us. The light flicked off as he opened the door.
“Ah, it’s just Vadum,” I muttered, about to fast forward back to the footage I was watching before Leon asked me to rewind it.
Yet, just as I reached for the mouse, I noticed the movement on the screen. I pulled back my hand and kept watching the screen.
Vadum started walking across the road. He then stopped to talk to someone I couldn’t quite make out because they were wearing a leather jacket and a beanie.
However, as my eyes took in both of them more carefully, I noticed one quite important detail. The person Vadum was talking to was wearing th!gh-high boots. That and the silhouette, as much as I could see of it, was enough to tell it was a woman.
My eyes followed the scene with newfound interest. What on earth was happening there, and why did Vadum act as if he was sneaking around? I guess Leon did notice someth ing attention-grabbing.
Vadum slowly unlocked his car, and the woman hurried to hop in the passenger seat. She looked like she was in a hurry while Vadum continued to cross the road.
I furrowed my brows right as Vadum leaned down, glanced around his surroundings, and pulled a hood over his head.
I held my breath as I watched how he approached the back end of the building. As soon as the security did their rounds checking the doors and the perimeter. Vadum had hid in some shrubs once he noticed them.
Yeah, this was definitely suspicious behavior. Vadum waited for the security to finish their rounds and leave before he walked over to the huge roller door. He then pulled a bottle out of the pocket of his hoodie.
A part of me couldn’t believe I was seeing what was actually happening on the screen, but I kept watching regardless of the hint of doubt.
Vadum set the bottle down before he started rummaging in his back pocket and finally pulled out what looked like a key.
“Mother f***ker!” Leon growled at the screen as we watched Vadum unlock the door.
He then pulled a lighter out of his pocket, set the accelerant on fire, and tossed the burning bottle onto the packing boxes and travel blankets through the door.
As if he hadn’t just set anything on fire or committed a crime, Vadum shut the door, turned around, dropped his head, and jogged back to his car.
He didn’t bother to do as much as glance over his shoulder, completely careless about anything that was happening behind his back. To hell, he didn’t bother to check if he wasn’t burning live beings who might have been inside the darn building.
I kept watching as Vadum hopped inside the car and left with the mysterious woman. It took a couple more minutes until the fire alarm went off and alerted everyone about the fire.
“I bet you that is where Harlow got the key cut when she was sleeping in the loading docks. That bas*ard cut himself a copy too.” Leon groaned, clutching his hair in frustration.
“But why would he? What ulterior motive could Vadum have? We have known him for years, and never had any issues. “This makes no sense.” I voiced my thoughts to Leon.
Before he could say anything, I pulled out my phone to call Thane, but once I found his contact on the screen, I remembered he was probably still on the plane.
For now, the safest option was to use the mind link since at least he wasn’t driving, and I wouldn’t distract him from the road. As I opened the mind link, Thane answered instantly. “What’s up? Any news on the culprit?
He asked as if someone had already alerted him, that I was about to dump the news on him before 1 opened the mind link.
“Leon noticed something on the security tape. It was Vadum. He was with some woman, but neither of us could identify her.” I growled.
Thane’s confusion came through the bond loud and clear. The feeling was way louder than a thousand words he might have shouted. “Vadum?” He repeated the name as if he thought he misunderstood me. “Have we ever had any issues with him before?” Thane quickly added the question to come up with the much-needed answers.
I tried to think of literally any reason why Vadum would try to sabotage us. “None that I know of. What do you want us to do besides report it?”
Thane hummed. “First, find him. And then find out who the woman was from that footage. Are you sure she wasn’t anyone you or Leon could recognize?” Thane asked.
Leon pulled his phone from his pocket. I knew he tried to mind-link Rhen earlier, but got no answer. I watched as he dialed the house number, also getting no answer, so he tried Rhen’s cell phone.
I focused back on Thane. “No idea. The woman was too far away, and she was wearing a beanie. It did look like she was hiding on purpose.
She jumped in the car, Vadum went off to do his thing, and then they drove off together. “Ring Rhen too, I can’t get a hold of him.” Thane told me.
