Chapter 30: Harlow POV:
“I can’t help but wonder… I wonder if our mother felt bad when she looked down at me as she set me in that basket and left me on dad’s doorstep. How could she walk away from her own child like that?”
Those were the last words I heard from Bree as I desperately pleaded for her to set Scarlet down next to Rhen. My heart was beating so violently that it felt dangerous, but I was ready to do anything to protect my daughter. If something happened to Scarlet, I would lose the very reason for my heart to continue to beat.
My body suddenly slammed against something hard and my eyes shot open, and a loud gasp left my l!ps. The last thing I could remember was how I was trying to convince Bree to set Scarlet down, and then her strange words.
Bree placed my daughter on the floor next to an unconscious Rhen. Never in my life before, have I felt such an intense and raw fear.

Before she was a safe distance away, I felt something crack against the back of my head, and then tiles rushing at my face before I saw Bree finally walk away from my daughter. I didn’t care that she was coming toward me. For as long as Scarlet was safe, I didn’t care what happened to me.
When I managed to pry my eyes open, I could hear a man talking. “You are revolting. She just had a baby not long ago, for fu**ck’s sake! Did you forget that already?” Bree growls angrily.
Clearly, they were discussing me. Yet, in this state, I couldn’t understand why and what was happening.
My head was pounding to its own beat.
Yeah? Well, let me give you a damn news flash.
You have no idea what it is like being a vamp, I never asked for this. At the end of the day, bl00d is bl00d, like it or not. However, she.. She smells fu*cking divine. Not that you could tell a gem from a stone or anything. Just pull this piece of shit over. I just want a quick taste.”
I blinked a couple of times, struggling to get back to my senses. As if the confused state wasn’t bad enough, I also couldn’t remember where I had heard that voice before.
I knew that voice, but I couldn’t tell from where.
Nothing made sense.
“Climb over the seat then. I am not stopping or pulling over until I get to Corbin. Especially if it’s for you, and your sudden, sick needs.” Bree snapped at the strange man.
Now that I knew that she was near, I found it in me to sit up. I finally registered that I was in a car and I had bled through my p-ants.
As I peered out the blackened windows, I could barely make out the trees and the highway. Where was Bree going again?
The car suddenly hit a bump, and a gr0an left me my head smashed against the window. I reached up to touch the aching spot, just to find that my wrists were tied together.
Absolutely lost and disoriented, I blinked a couple of times to clear my vision. I pulled my fingers away from my head, and once my eyes set on them, I noticed that my fingertips were stained with bl00d.
“Well, well, well, aren’t I lucky? Just in time, look who’s wide awake and ready to play?” The sultry purr startled me, and I barely held in the scream that was threatening to escape me.
My head rolled back and hit the headrest as I tried to recognize who was speaking. My gaze settled on a man I had met only a few times. Vadum, the keyman from the smoke store.
“How are you feeling, sugar?” He spoke up, offering me a sickening smile. He tilted his head and, somehow, managed to smile even wider.
Want some company back there? I would be more than happy to help you out,” he growled.
Cold shivers ran down my sp!ne as I watched his eyes flicker oddly. The fact that Vadum actually l!cked his l!ps as he stared at me made the situation way worse, knowing exactly what sort of creep he was.
This same bastard asked me to flash my t*its for a ride and then snapped a picture.
While I thought of the vile memory, Vadum kept l!cking his l!ps, and the action made my eyes dart to them. I could see the sharp points of his fangs protruding, almost piercing his b0ttom l!p.
My heart started beating a little faster as I finally remembered that Vadum was more than the key guy. He chose to use the moment of my confusion and suddenly climbed between the front seats.
Realization crashed over me like a ton of bricks. I tried to thrash to get out of the restraints, but all he did was laugh. Vadum climbed into the back with me grabbing my knee.
I quickly turned in my seat and kicked my tied- together legs out. My feet hit his ch3st, shoving him against the other door.
“Someone woke up cranky,” he muttered under his breath. His eyes set on my feet and then, slowly, traveled up my body. “You should have warned me you’re not a morning person. Vadum growled as he trapped my feet against the leather seats.
“Let go of me! Don’t touch me!” I tried to scream, yet the sound of my own voice made my head pound.
I watched as Vadum unclipped my seatbelt and dragged me toward him. Still, I kept trashing and trying to fight, but he pressed his weight on top of me, so I acted on instinct and headbutted him. Pain exploded through my skull, while all he did was release a barely audible grunt. His hands wrapped around my throat and cut off my air.
I struggled, and gasped for air, yet despite my attempts, I was unable to do anything or fight back.
After all, I was restrained, and he was holding me down. My eyes hurt, tears stung them, and my face had is slowly turning purple.
“You stup!d b!tch! Do you have any idea what you did? That fu**cking hurt!” He screamed in my face as he added more pressure to my neck.
“Hey! Hey!” Bree yelled as her hand slapped my attacker’s shoulder from the driver’s seat.
All he did was respond with a growl as he was too busy with me, apparently, intent on r!pping my shirt apart.
I need her alive, da*mn it! Don’t you dare fu**ck this up for me, m0ron!” Bree snarled, and his grip around my neck tightened again before he slammed my head into the car door.
For a brief moment, all I could see was black. My eyes rolled back while I felt him rip my shirt to pieces. To my surprise, he let go of my throat, and I instantly used the chance to gasp in a breath.
Somehow, I managed to choke on air while I could feel him bite into my br**east.
His fa*ngs sunk into me painfully. The scream of pain that tore out of me was deafening. Tears escaped my eyes, and once again, I started thrashing against him.
My attempts to fight him off did nothing but make him laugh and pull out his fangs just to bite my other br**east.
A weak whimper escaped me. I felt disgusted when I finally understood what he was doing. This creep was feeding on me.
“Please, please, stop. I’m begging you, stop this,” I croaked out when he sank his fangs into my neck.
