Chapter 50
Ella’s POV:
I gasped as I looked at him in surprise.
Did I hear him right? He just asked me to marry him, didn’t he?
I stare at him with my mouth open like an idiot, unable to form any response. It was just too damn unexpected.

He clears his throat and says “If you haven’t changed your mind about your offer, I’d like to take you up on it. You can totally say no. I will not hold it against you.”
“What made you change your mind?” I asked before giving him my answer.
He lets go of my hand and turns his head from me as if he doesn’t want me to see his expression and stares at the window for a while.
“I realized that you were right, you are the perfect person for this. You understand that I don’t really want to be intimate, that I am only doing this because of my duty to the pack. I will not find anyone willing to do this, to be married to me but not really. Just on paper, and just in front of the pack. You get it, while no one else will,” he said firmly.
A lump formed in my throat at what he said.
What did you expect other than that Ella? That he had real feelings for you? I chastised myself.
He only wants me because I know my limits with him. I will never cross those limits and demand a real marriage like another woman would after a while. Especially since he knows my aversion when it comes to intimacy.
He was still avoiding me and looking at the window, while I considered my decision.
I did offer myself to him, after all. I wondered if I didn’t, would he have asked me to marry him then?
If he wanted to marry me because I understood his situation, I wanted to marry him to cleanse myself from my father’s sins.
“Yes, I will marry you, alpha” I said firmly.
He turned his head to me then, and I saw a slight delight in his expression.
I have no idea if I just made the right choice or not, if I will come to regret that decision or I will be glad that I took that extremely overwhelming wide step.
“Thank you for trusting me enough to accept this offer. I promise you Ella, you will not regret this. I will do everything I can to make this marriage work for both of us. Starting with the most important thing, I will never touch you against your will or f0rce you into my bed. I know you are not ready for that step at all and I don’t want you to worry about it” he said sincerely.
I was so grateful for his promise and consideration. But it was the whole point of the marriage. I ask him in confusion “But we are getting married so you can extend the line, isn’t that the whole point?”
“Yes, it is. But we don’t have to do that right away. The elders gave me a year after marriage to bear a child. We will have a lot of time. I want us to wrap our heads around living together first before we rush into things,” he said kindly.
I have to admit, the scariest part about accepting the offer was the se*x part, with that postponed, I felt more at ease about my decision.
“Okay, thank you for your consideration alpha. I want you to know that it means a lot to me,” I said in appreciation.
He gazes at me with a smile on his face without saying anything for a few minutes.
“I will come to your room tomorrow morning and we can go check on Sara together and inform them about our decision, our real decision. They are the only people who will know about our deal, ok?” he says.
sh*t! I didn’t stop to think what this will do to them. I was taking their daughter’s place. This will definitely not be easy on them. What if they showed their disapproval? I will never be able to go through with it without their blessing.
Suddenly, I remembered what that man said to me about Sara crying when we were dancing.
He sensed my hesitation and asked warily “What are you thinking about?”
I blurt out nervously, “What if they disapprove alpha? What if they don’t want me to take… her place. That man told me that in the middle of our dance Sara was crying so hard, she couldn’t watch us anymore that’s why she was in the bathroom when she was taken.”
He looked at me tenderly and said “She wasn’t crying because she was hurt when she saw us dancing together. Those were tears of joy. Sara didn’t just lose her daughter on that day, she lost her son as well. I was drowning so deep in my grief I might as well have d*ied along with her. She was crying because she just saw her son come back to life again, watching me enjoy something truly for the first time in a year, made her emotional.”
It never occurred to me to think of it that way. But now that I did, he was right. Sara was his mother as well as Kate’s. She would want him to be happy, even if it was with someone else.
“Ella, Sara and Joseph already consider you a part of their family. They will always look out for you. They would probably take your side in an argument than take mine, to that extent. I don’t want you to ever doubt the depth of their love for you, ok?”
His words bring so much warmth into me and my eyes begin to tear up. My deep insecurity about this specific subject always makes me doubtful about myself and where I actually belong.
“Ok. I will wait for you tomorrow morning then, so we can go to them together,” I tell him while trying to keep my emotions from overwhelming me.
He smiles at me and squeezes my hand, acknowledging that I was deeply moved by what he said to me.
I sniff a little and try to lighten the mood as I say to him lightly “Speaking of our dance, despite what happened at the end of it, I thought you should know that it was the most amazing dance I have ever performed. It was perfect in every way. Despite the many dances I performed with Jake, this was the best and most memorable one”
He smiles so openly, my heart skips a beat for some unknown reason. It made him so happy to hear what I just said.
“I really enjoyed it, too. It was mesmerizing, you were mesmerizing,” he said in a low voice.
I felt my cheeks burn red. It almost felt like he was flirting with me, but I had no way of confirming it. I pushed it away immediately, I didn’t want to get my hopes up for nothing.
“I will let you go back to sleep, you went through quiet a lot today.”
He hesitates before saying, “I’m glad you fought for your life until the very end Ella. You were so damn brave and strong.”
“I’m glad you came to save me. I would have d*ied if it weren’t for you. I didn’t stand a chance against him I knew that, but I wanted to buy enough time for you to catch him before he escaped, that’s why I tried so hard.”
“I was raging mad at you by the way. You had no right to go off on your own and endanger your life like that, even if you were trying to save Sara’s life, you should have told me where you were from the beginning,” he said tightly.
Of course, his temper had to make an appearance amidst all the gentle and tender conversation we just had.
“Yeah, your rage almost got me K*lled by the way. You caused me to lose focus and I almost got pinned down. I did the best I could, I would have rather d*ied than risked any of your lives. He had leverage over me, there was nothing I could do but follow him. I could only warn Joseph and hope he would get to her in time before the man goes back on his word and hurts her. You don’t get to be mad at me for trying to protect the people that I love,” I said in defiance.
He stares at me in surprise without saying anything. He was shocked at my outburst. He wasn’t expecting me to argue.
sh*t, I always lose control over my tongue with him.
He takes a deep breath and says almost gently, “you’re right. You did the best thing you could out of a bad situation. I am just glad it all worked out in the end.”
Huh! He didn’t become super mad and bite my head off this time, thank god. I had to admit, he was improving in his anger management sK*lls.
“The guy, what happened to him?” I asked hesitantly.
“He is locked up in one of the cells in the basem*nt. He is not going anywhere, don’t worry about him anymore,” he said soothingly.
“Did you talk to him yet?“ I asked carefully.
“No, he was in a pretty bad shape after I beat the crap out of him. I want him to heal first before I get answers from him.”
I wanted to tell him about the weird things he said on the roof, but before I could open my mouth, alpha Klaus got up and said quietly, “We both need to get some sleep. I will see you tomorrow. Good night.”
“See you tomorrow, good night alpha,” I say in a small voice. I guess I will talk to him tomorrow, then.
He lets go of my hand and heads out the door. I instantly feel the absence of his warm touch deep within me.
I am getting married to alpha Klaus. How the hell did this happen? A few weeks ago, I was running away from him and trying to escape into the human world. A few weeks ago, I tried to K*ll him and he punished and whipped me for it. A few weeks ago, he called me a lying murderer’s daughter, promised to make my life a living hell, and alpha-commanded me against my will, and I feared and hated him profoundly for all of it.
And now, we are getting married.
Calling this a twist of fate is considered a vast understatement.
