Tossed Between Her Defiant Mates By Alexis Dee (Book 2)

Chapter 120 Meeting His Father (Genevieve Swan)

I entered the room to find Caspian gasping for air. The moment his eyes landed on me, a fractured smile graced his l*ips. I observed him attempt to lift his head, but his lack of energy forced him back onto the bed.

Hurrying over, I picked up the glass of water and offered it to him.

Throughout, he hadn’t stopped smiling at me, even as he sipped the water.

“You’re actually h—ere?” he asked, sounding incredulous.

“I’m here,” I reassured him with a nod.

“I can’t believe this–,” he placed his head back onto the pillow and began to chuckle, only stopping when he broke into a coughing fit.

“Stay lying down, Caspian. You’re not feeling well,” I said, feeling a pang of guilt even as I spoke about his condition. Why had we let him go out alone, especially knowing that dangers lurked outside?

“I know what I’m feeling. I’m feeling very happy,” his voice was hoarse and deep, yet he managed to utter those words while keeping his gaze fixed on me.

“I’ve loved you for so long-” he began explaining, and then I realized he wasn’t addressing me. His condition had deteriorated to the point where he was hallucinating, seeing his crush in me. It brought tears to my eyes instantly.

“I’ve loved you from afar for a long time. Every time someb*ody caught me looking at you, they’d laugh at me. They’d tell me that you’d never love a flawed alpha like me. It hurt, hurt so much,” tears welled up in his eyes, and a small whimper escaped his l*ips.

I had no idea his feelings ran so deep, that he was afraid to even approach her due to the discouragement from others.

“And then, as reality began to set in, I started to retreat. I told everyone I wasn’t in love. That she wasn’t someone I wanted to be with,” he closed his eyes, a tear tracing its path down his cheek.

“Ah! You have no idea how much I’ve loved you my entire life,” he remained lying down, until suddenly his eyes snapped open and his bones cracked.

“And now I’m going to f*ucking kill you!” he yelled out of the blue. I shot up and rushed to the corner of the room, my terrified screams escaping me as I witnessed his neck contorting and his eyes changing color.

In a rush, I seized his phone and hurried out of the bedroom. I couldn’t bear to witness him like that any longer. While everyone was out searching for a cure, he was my fated mate, and I felt helpless doing nothing. The unease settled heavily within me.

Opening his text conversation with his father, I noticed only one word from him.

Alpha: No!

I furrowed my brow as I saw that the rest of the chat had been deleted. The messages remained unt*ouched; I didn’t want to invade his privacy like he had invaded mine. After a deep breath, I resolved to message his father.

Me: Hey, it’s me, Caspian’s mate and wife, Genevieve Swan.

Alpha: I am Alpha, I-Oh, I’m sure you’re aware.

It seemed like he was a bit c*ocky about his status. He was still referring to himself as the alpha when he should have passed on the title to his son completely.

Me: I want to talk to you.

Impatience gripped me as I waited for a response. Inside, I could still hear Caspian grunting and making strange sounds.

Only a few minutes later, a reply from his father arrived. The fact that he had saved his father’s name as “Alpha” shed light on their relationship.

Alpha: Where is my son?

The hostility in his text was unmistakable.

Me: He’s sick. And I need your help.

I typed as I sat back on the couch, my nerves getting the better of me. There had to be something I could do to save him. Trembling intensely, I prayed that his father would show some compassion for his son.

Alpha: What happened to him?

Me: He was bitten by the wild wolves last night. He’s not in a good state. Can you please help us figure out what to do?

I cringed at the thought of how angry his father would be with us for endangering his life. Given that he was an alpha who had experienced the war, he might possess knowledge about dealing with those bitten by the wild wolves.

Alpha: Is this some kind of joke?

Me: No, Alpha, I–Oh, this happened last night. I wonder how much time we have.

Suddenly, his father began calling Caspian’s phone, causing my heart to leap in my c*hest as I realized I now had to speak to him for the first time. Not exactly an ideal situation.

“Hello,” I muttered into the phone, and I heard a grunt from the other end.

“If he thinks this will excuse him from his responsibilities, he’s wrong,” the very first thing he said wasn’t about expressing concern for his son’s health. It surprised me, but I should have anticipated it from a man who had mistreated his son, as Caspian had told me.

“It’s not a lie. He’s in a very critical condition. I don’t know what to do–his bones kept cracking, and his eyes are showing his wolf,” I began to babble, while the man on the other end started to take measured breaths, as if he was finally realizing this was no falsehood. “Why only my children,” he whispered under his breath, almost too soft to hear. Yet, I knew he had previously lost his daughter. This must be an unimaginably tricky prospect for him, facing the potential loss of his son now.

“Is there anything we can do to save his life?” I practically begged, my desperation evident. I would plead if it came down to it.

“There is. But you’ll have to take something from your father for that. And I doubt he’d ever agree to something like that,” his sudden calmness sent a shiver down my spine.

Even so, I was prepared to take that risk for Caspian.
