Tossed Between Her Defiant Mates By Alexis Dee

Chapter 79 She Is Bullying My Mates (Genevieve Swan)

“We strolled out of the bathroom, feeling refreshed after a relaxing shower and getting ready in the outfits we had selected for the dinner. I opted for a shimmering knee-length dress, applying just a t*ouch of crimson lipstick. Nervously, I put on high heels for the first time, as Bellamy had assured me he’d be there to catch me if I stumbled.

He looked incredibly dashing in his el*egant grey suit. I was delighted with the way he had treated me since our arrival.

“Ready to go, my princess?” he said, offering his arm as I smiled and linked mine with his. Exiting the bedroom, we unexpectedly encountered Ariel, who appeared to have been waiting by the door all this time.

“Everyone’s been waiting,” she remarked, taking only a brief pause to observe my attire.

“She looks stunning, doesn’t she?” Bellamy remarked to Ariel, causing her to nod and smile awkwardly. Although he intended to compliment me, something about him doing it in front of her and indirectly asking her to do the same rubbed me the wrong way.

Regardless of how unpleasant Ariel had been towards me, I didn’t enjoy flaunting it or attempting to put her down.

However, I refrained from complaining.

Bellamy treated me so kindly that I feared uttering even a single wrong word might spoil everything. We made our way downstairs to the dining room, where my other friends were already gathered. As I glanced around, I realized we were the only ones present. I had expected at least some of his family members to join us, but it appeared that none of his pack elders were present either.

“Where is everyone else?” I inquired, trying to maintain a smile as Bellamy courteously pulled the seat back for me.

Wolvin seemed entirely engrossed in devouring the lamb, not bothering to raise his head. Unlike the others, who had eagerly waited for our arrival and even cast a curious gaze at me when I came into their view. It was now quite evident that Wolvin couldn’t care less.

He was clearly motivated by money, and I decided to come to terms with that reality. It’s not like I had developed any feelings for him anyway; I had merely thought that maybe we had a slight connection.

Pushing those thoughts aside, I focused on Bellamy, eagerly awaiting his response. “This is a fallen pack, Vieve! We don’t have any elders or—I don’t have any family members left alive,” he said, settling down and speaking in a voice filled with emotion. Instantly, guilt washed over me for being insensitive.

“But I genuinely admire how close-knit everyone is here,” I quickly added, attempting some damage control. Bellamy responded with a reassuring smile, letting me know that everything was alright. Taking a deep breath, I began eating the pizza rolls to ease the tension.

Ariel joined us at the table, sitting on the opposite side. As the royal beta of the pack, it was evident she would be sticking around.

“So, Princess Genevieve!” Ariel finally spoke, just as I had anticipated. Her posture and unwavering gaze toward me indicated that she was about to engage in conversation.

“Yes?” I responded, mustering the composure to overlook our past contentious interactions and remain calm at the dinner table.

“Your father is an alpha king; I’m sure I don’t need to remind you of that. But, will he aid our pack?” Ariel inquired, her questions drawing a stern look from Bellamy. He must have informed her that he was doing his utmost to secure a substantial payment from my father. “Do you recall why I signed the contract, Ariel?” Bellamy forced a smile, gently reminding her of the circumstances.

“I understand, and I do remember,” Ariel replied, letting out a slightly uneasy laugh before continuing, “But that’s until she turns a certain age. It will take years for that. What about our pack until then?” She locked eyes with Bellamy, making it clear that she wouldn’t back down until she received a satisfactory response.

“I will talk to my father and see what we can do to address the pack’s issues,” I attempted to deflect her questioning, trying to come up with an excuse to get her off my back. However, the truth was, I had no idea how much influence I held with my father or how receptive he would be to my requests.

From a young age, my father never truly involved me in any pack conversations or meetings. Monique was the only one who stayed by his side all along. It seemed like he preferred her company over mine.

“That’s not the answer, but okay!” Ariel responded with a snobby laugh before refocusing on her food.

My mates observed the conversation silently, perhaps granting her some leniency due to her status as the royal beta, assuming that looking after the pack’s welfare was part of her responsibilities.

“I’m certain everyone agrees with me that things should be addressed sooner rather than later. I mean, Alpha Caspian, how is your pack doing?” Ariel shifted her focus to Caspian, who nearly choked on his wine in surprise.

Just when I hoped she would stop her intrusive questioning, she found a new target to prod.

“Ariel, they’re all tired. Can we not discuss this right now?” Bellamy intervened, attempting to defuse the situation. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but notice Caspian’s reaction. He closed his eyes and clenched his jaw at the mention of his pack, clearly affected by the topic.

“Alright! I’m sure Wolvin isn’t too sensitive. How do you survive in the woods, Wolvin?” Ariel moved on to target another one of my mates. I started feeling increasingly anxious. It was as if each time she aimed to hurt them with her words, I felt the pain deep in my heart.

Perhaps her behavior stemmed from lingering anger over the day my mates stood up for me and confronted her. Wolvin paused his munching on the steak and lifted his head to gaze at her. What he said next left me utterly shocked.
