Chapter 96 Caught Coming Home With Ron (Genevieve Swan)

“Let me give you a ride home. It’s getting late, and there are quite a few wild wolves roaming around at this time of night,” Ron suggested, the distant sound of wolves howling reaching our ears.

I knew he was making a valid point.

Taxis were scarce around here at this hour.

“With the full moon approaching, it’s likely that the wild wolves are out, searching for vulnerable prey,” he added, averting his gaze from me. I had considerably calmed down now that I was out of the cafe. Kit hadn’t emerged, so I assumed she was anticipating that Ron would return inside to check on her.

However, he hadn’t left my side for the past few minutes.

“Alright,” I held my breath and nodded. The prospect of being attacked or becoming someone’s meal wasn’t appealing, so I allowed him to give me a ride home. But not before Kit made one final intrusion.

She rushed out of the cafe, her hands on her h*ips, and glared at Ron. “You’re leaving with her?” she shouted, her expression contorted in a scowl. There was no sign of embarrassment on her face, even after being reprimanded for sending those messages to my phone and being rebuked by my mate.

She appeared to be entirely shameless.

I found myself wondering how I hadn’t noticed this before. People around me in school had frequently mentioned that Kit was peculiar, but I never delved too deeply into it.

“Kit! I’m sure you can manage to get back home on your own,” Ron responded without a hint of concern for her puffy eyes. This was the consequence of trying to manipulate someone through mean-spirited actions.

“She can reach out to her mates,” Kit added, and in all fairness, she wasn’t incorrect. However, the more she complicated matters by objecting, the stronger my resolve grew to go home with Ron.

“Are you giving me a ride or not? Because if not, I’ll call my mates,” I informed him, observing her mouth open in astonishment, a gasp of surprise and disbelief escaping her l*ips. She was taken aback by my ability to stand up to them like that.

“I’m sorry. Let’s go,” Ron promptly agreed with me, paying no heed to Kit, who appeared visibly displeased by the notion.

“If you left with her–” she began to say, but he closed my door and hurried into the driver’s seat. With her left behind, we hit the road.

So much was unfolding in my life that I found it difficult to discern who I could truly trust. Ron’s courteous behavior toward me and his obvious avoidance of Kit left me pondering his intentions. “Thank you for taking me up on the offer,” he whispered, running a hand through his hair to tame the unruliness. “You know I only agreed to it to get under her skin, right?” I admitted candidly. My motive for getting into his car was solely to irritate Kit. Knowing how deeply she was infatuated with him, I thought it might be entertaining to subject her to even a fraction of the pain she had put me through when she slept with him on our wedding day. Not that Ron was devoid of blame, but I had ceased to consider him a meaningful presence in my life.

“I understand,” he sighed, “It’s h*ard to believe we were once on the path to marriage,” Ron reminisced, wearily resting his head back.

“Well, I suppose you’re familiar with what happened,” I rolled my eyes at him, finding it amusing that he was acting as though he had no knowledge of the situation.

“And there’s a reason behind why I did that,” he mumbled quietly.

“Yeah, the reason being that you couldn’t resist cheating,” I chuckled and shook my head in disbelief. He was really trying to portray himself as a victim here. Nobody coerced him into betraying me. His own disloyalty led him to hurt me in the worst possible way.

“Because I didn’t know any other way to put a stop to that wedding,” his statement made me turn to face him. “That doesn’t make any sense,” I shrugged, realizing he was fabricating excuses at this point.

“One day, you’ll discover the truth,

Genevieve,” he whispered so softly that I could barely catch his words. I knew meeting him and Kit had been a mistake, but at least it had helped me realize that Caspian’s actions probably weren’t driven by malicious intent. I still believed he should have communicated with me first, but apart from that, the thought that he might have feigned involvement and made a foolish mistake no longer bothered me. “Listen, I’d like to share something with you,” he cleared his t*hroat and slowed down just as we were approaching the hills where my condo was located. “Sure, go ahead,” I sighed, gently massaging my temples.

“There’s something off about Monique,” as soon as he said that, my focus shifted entirely to him.

“What do you mean?” Since I couldn’t outright admit that she was disorganized, I had to maintain a neutral stance.

“It’s just that she’s been displaying signs of depression lately. It’s as if she’s meant to do something but doesn’t know how to proceed. I’m not sure if I’m making sense,” he shook his head after realizing his words had left me puzzled.

“I’ll go see her soon,” I said, genuinely curious about what might be troubling her. However, before I could do that, an unpleasant surprise awaited me on the front porch of my condo.

As Ron parked the car a bit away from the condo, likely attempting to avoid being seen by my mates, we discovered my mates assembled on the porch, gazing into the distance, probably acknowledging that we had returned home together.

“Oh! Do you want me to-” I cut Ron off with a dismissive shake of my head. “I’m not going to keep it a secret from them anyway. Thanks for giving me a ride home. Goodnight,” I hurriedly exited the car and headed toward the porch, feeling the intensity of my mate’s displeased stares.

“You went on a date with him?” the very first question sent shockwaves through me. They had completely misconstrued my encounter with Ron.
