Tossed Between Her Defiant Mates By Alexis Dee

Chapter 98 An Outdoor Session (Genevieve Swan)

He wept for a few more minutes before eventually calming down. We sat on the grass, his head resting in my lap. He appeared so tranquil in that moment.

“I don’t understand why he believes I’m useless,” he spoke up after a few minutes of silence. I wasn’t sure who he was referring to, and I didn’t want to intrude on his private matters while he was feeling so distressed.

“You’re not,” I reassured him, and he raised his head from my lap to sit facing me.

“You know, I grew up hearing that I’m not deserving of the status of an alpha of the pack. It was like a constant barrage of criticism in my ears. But the most painful part was that the person they wanted to be the leader was the person I cared about the most,” he wiped away his tears, leaving me curious about the identity of this person.

“Why didn’t he become the alpha then?” I inquired, and his smile faded.

“Because she met a tragic end,” his response revealed that it was a girl. Numerous questions flooded my mind, yet I remained attentive and listened quietly.

“What happened to her?” I inquired, aiming not to come across as envious, but rather to provide a sympathetic ear for his emotions. I continued to let him express himself.

“She… she lost a part of her identity,” he gasped before covering his face with his hands, “My mother passed away when I was born. It was my sister who looked after me. She wasn’t just a sister to me; she was my closest friend and the next alpha in line.”

I couldn’t help but let out a little gasp when I realized he had been talking about his sibling all this time.

“And then chaos erupted. I was never enough. I couldn’t measure up to her, and I was reminded of that every single day. No matter how h*ard I attempted to do well, I’d somehow mess it up. I just can’t–” he shielded his ears with his hands as if he were hearing troubling voices.

“I yearned to know what they were saying about me. I would think maybe today they’d acknowledge something good I did, but that never occurred,” he continued to chatter. It led me to ponder if he had developed the habit of prying into everyone’s phone due to his past experiences.

“Caspian, look at me,” I cradled his face in my hands and gently released him from his reverie, gazing into his eyes. “You are more than sufficient,” I murmured.

“How? I messed up with you as well. I shouldn’t have used your phone, but all I saw were those messages from that woman, and it was like reliving it all over again. The anger I felt when I saw those sketches, those—” his l*ips grew parched as he faltered, forgetting to close his mouth, and faint whimpers slipped from his l*ips.

“For a fleeting moment, I wished I could pretend to be you and entice her into the woods, where I’d damn well end her life—but then it struck me that you would think I’m worthless too if I stooped to such actions,” he started scratching his scalp.

I had never realized he carried such profound trauma from this experience. “I shouldn’t have taken those actions, but believe me, my motives were not malicious. I simply didn’t want you to be distressed, so I kept it from you and handled it myself. That’s all,” he spoke, his expression devastated as he awaited my response.

“Why did you claim it was Wolvin?” I inquired, observing him drift off into his thoughts.

“I don’t know. It’s just that-he exudes so much character. Despite being impoverished and a rogue, nobody holds him in favor, yet he brims with self-assurance. It’s as if nothing affects him, nothing intimidates him,” he murmured, his hands rubbing across his face.

“You possess character too. You’re nothing like the picture they paint of you. Caspian, you understand how to be charming and how to command attention. You even captured an Elf– those beings are tough to detect,” I reassured him, instilling the confidence he rightly deserved.

“And you vanquished the monsters to win my hand in marriage. Those formidable beasts weren’t simple to defeat,” I grinned, and he chuckled, shaking his head playfully at my jest. “Can you find it in yourself to forgive me for using your phone? I vow to make every effort to avoid any missteps in the future,” he swiftly grasped my hands, momentarily catching me off guard.

“I believe that would be a wise decision. Just confide in me, and I’ll do my utmost to be empathetic,” I observed him break into a broad smile, finally appearing serene.

“Also, please keep what I shared about my family to yourself,” I understood why he wanted to keep his personal matters confidential. I had witnessed the judgmental looks from Bellamy and Emre, and it genuinely saddened me. “And don’t inform that rascal that I admire him. Yes, he might be good-looking and possess a carefree attitude, but he’s poor too,” as he spoke, I shook my head in disagreement, and he immediately pouted, silently mouthing the word ‘sorry’.

“Now, shall we head back home?” I suggested. As I started to rise, he clasped my hand, urging me to sit down once more.

“Not just yet,” he murmured, edging closer and planting a gentle k*iss on my cheek.

The darkness enveloped us, and the stillness of the wilderness was an uneasy presence. Yet, amidst it all, his heartbeat resonated even more clearly. He nudged me forward gently, positioning himself behind me.

As he brushed my hair to the side, my heart began to race even faster within my chest. I felt his tender k*isses trace a path from around my ear to my cheek, then up to my temples–those spots that always made me vulnerable.

His hands, both strong and resolute, enveloped me securely.

His grip tightened when both his hands cupped my b*reasts.

It seemed like we were going to have a session in the open.
